With Laudate et servite, performed by the La Meridiana Musical Company, the Concerts in the Basilica paid tribute to Saint Francis, 800 years after his death. It was a commitment made last year by Socoba and the Coro Polifonico di Ruda, organizers of the Aquileia concert season, and one that has now been duly fulfilled. The musical, featuring performers Lis Sara Facchinutti and Nadia Pers, together with audio description by Giulia Cosolo, fitted perfectly into the A Basilica for Everyone project, which Socoba has been promoting for several decades to make the basilica accessible also to deaf and blind visitors. The large audience applauded the 13 stages into which Francis’s journey was divided, from his conversion to the Canticle of the Creatures, through other pieces including Brother Sun and Sister Moon, In the Marshes of Venice, and San Damiano. La Meridiana is a 40-member musical collective comprising strings, voices, and modern instruments. Rooted in Scorzè, it has a nomadic spirit that embraces the entire Veneto region.
