The first live performance of Genesi—a work in three tableaux dedicated to the UNESCO cities of Friuli Venezia Giulia (Aquileia, Cividale del Friuli and Palmanova)—was a great success on Sunday, 18 October, at Pordenone Cathedral. More than 300 people attended the performance by the Coro Polifonico di Ruda, featuring voices by Aida Talliente and Elsa Martin, and pianists Matteo Andri and Ferdinando Mussutto. Fabiana Noro conducted the ensemble with her customary mastery, bringing out all the dramatic intensity of Renato Miani’s score and the texts selected by Angelo Floramo, dedicated to the mime Bassilla (Aquileia), Queen Romilda (Cividale) and Princess Fatma of Bosnia (Palmanova). The choir’s cohesive sound and shifting tonal colours were beautifully complemented by the female voices, which portrayed the three women with an almost sacred intensity. Their stories also serve as a warning against gender-based violence, which continues to claim lives in our country today.
