Basilica's Concerts: 'O stella Maris' mass
The performance of the Solemn Mass 'O stella maris' for string orchestra, soloists and choir by Pietro Alessandro Pavona (1728-1786) proposed for the Concerts in the Basilica 2024 by the Arrigoni String Academy and the Mittelvox choir conducted by Mateja Černic convinced the large audience present. A monumental and complex work, the two ensembles involved the audience with a clean and technically impeccable performance that also highlighted the vocal qualities of some members of the choir involved in solo passages. In the first part, the Arrigoni Academy - with an excellent Elisa Spremulli as solo violin - proposed two concertos for violin, strings and basso continuo by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). The evening ended with the motet Ave Maris stella by Girolamo Pera (1690-1771). The audience's applause was prolonged and convincing.
